It doesn’t dry it out if you’re sealing it afterward with an oil like extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil. In the end, you have to do what YOU feel is best for your child’s hair. If her hair is dry, it needs water. Plain and simple. Naturally textured hair NEEDS moisture to grow and that moisture has to come from water.

Also, Is she getting in the recommended amount of water for her age group each day (if she’s at least a year)? Is she wearing protective styles at least 60% of the time? That seals in the moisture. Are you deep conditioning weekly or every other week and using heat? If her hair is chronically dry then a regular deep conditioning is what she needs.

But again, she’s still pretty young. Dryness and patchy growth is NORMAL. The less you mess with her hair the better.

Let me know if you have any follow up questions. 🙂
